Retaining Walls are extremely important for this home along Winnetka’s Lake Michigan shore.
Because the home’s backyard is on a steep slope the Retaining Wall and the Outcropping Stone Wall ensure the yard won’t experience erosion.
This Outcropping Stone creates a more natural looking Retaining Wall. To the left of the Retaining Wall is an integrated Flagstone Staircase. The staircase is made of the same stone as the Outcropping Retaining Wall and provides accessibility from the upper level to the lower level of this home’s yard. This is a beautiful illustration of how a retaining wall does not have to be flat, and we can design a more natural looking wall into the grade of your landscape.
This BlueStone Retaining Wall is another great illustration of a low Retaining Wall being used to help define the edge of the outdoor living space and creating a garden space above for plantings.
Shown above is a Bluestone Wall providing both a privacy screen and an enclosure for this garden walkway. The client also wanted to include a water feature within the wall so we added a small water fountain. Both the wall and the water fountain are made with Bluestone which are great for Chicago weather as it’s very durable and withstands the rough weather conditions of the Chicagoland area.
